Journal of Mathematical Behavior is an active peer-reviewed academic journal published quarterly by Elsevier. It focuses on research about learning and teaching of mathematics at all ages, in both formal and informal learning settings. Founded in 1971 as the Journal of Children’s Mathematical Behavior, the journal changed to its current title in 1980 with the expanded focus on mathematics learning, teaching, assessment and policy.

Each issue features research articles that expand the understanding of how people build, retain, communicate, apply and comprehend mathematical ideas. In addition, it also publishes dialogue, discussion, and debate papers. The journal’s intended audience includes researchers who concentrate on the learning of mathematics and science psychologists, learning scientists, mathematicians and teachers of mathematics, cognitive scientists, linguists, educators and policy makers.

The Internet Archive Collection contains microfilm published between 2002 and 2009.
