Forum: bookmobile Subject: "Moving Thought" artists' book bookmobile project in Tampa, FL

Hi, everyone! MFA Fine Arts students at Univ. South FL are doing a bookmobile project this spring -- April through June -- called "Moving Thought". It's about moving artists' books, both the printed kind and the very unique hand-made kind, around the Tampa Bay area to diverse audiences. The on-site visits happen in April of this '08 year, and then for May we are going to be "frozen" inplace at the Contemporary Art Museum. We are hoping to get the mobilivre.org vehicle... but it's in a warehouse in New Jersey (how do we get it to Florida? Anyone ship these things by rail?), and the collective may decide not to let us have it. If anyone is hip to a bookmobile or similar vehicle (the buildout in this warm climate will mean we're mostly displaying outdoors) -- we would greatly appreciate it. We have a budget that is tiny but real, for rental or purchase. Thanks! Love this forum! And the video is super!

Hi folks,
The "Moving Thought" artists' bookmobile project is concluded. We did bookbinding and cyanotype workshops, showed published artists' books from Printed Matter and a number of central Florida zinemakers' things. Seminar members teaching had their USF undergrad classes make handmade artists' books. A record of all these activities, as well as a selection of books for sale, are in the Contemporary Art Museum, USF Tampa through early May. There is also a little catalogue, and an ancillary exhibition in the USF Library Special Collections.

We invited Courtney Dailey of the Mobilivre collective to Tampa to speak. They did a bookmobile project for five years running (2001-06). A rough transcript of her talk in April '08 is here: http://collectiva.wikispaces.com/INTERVIEW+with+Mobilivre+collective+member+Courtney+Dailey+4-08
